Dating back to the late 17th century, the Church of Saint Catherine was designed in the Maltese baroque style by Lorenzo Gafà. The church was built to replace St. Gregory’s as the parish church due to an increase in population. The new church was constructed to be in the centre of Żejtun. A number of artists, like Francesco Zahra, also contributed to the decoration inside the church. Following construction, the church was consecrated in 1742.
