The Armoury in Siggiewi was a prominent site during the early modern period as it was the residence of the captain of the village. The Grand Master of Malta would visit it during the town’s annual feast. Following the departure of the Knights of St. John, it was constantly used for different purposes. At one point, for example, it was used as a school. A total of seven ships are etched onto the stone directly next to each other. They are all located high up, by the Armoury’s balcony. These ships vary in typology and likely date back to the early modern period during which Malta was occupied by the Knights of St. John.
